 Seats for Forklifts Gilbert - Gilbert is a town located within Maricopa County, Arizona. The community is within the Phoenix metropolitan area and is located just southeast of Phoenix. The city of Gilbert encompasses around 76 square miles or 197 km2. It has made the fast transformation in recent years from being a community based on agriculture to an economically diverse suburban center.
Gilbert has increased it population quite significantly in the last couple of decades. The 1980 population of Gilbert was 5,717 residents, growing to a massive 208,453 residents, based on the year 2010 census numbers. The community has become a very educated and very affluent area supporting high-wage jobs in life science and health services, clean and renewable energy and high technology. Gilbert has also developed into the corporate and regional headquarters and offices within numerous advanced business services.
The city of Gilbert owes its start to William "Bobby" Gilbert. He provided land during 1902 to the Arizona Eastern Railway. This allowed them to construct a rail line between Florence and Phoenix Arizona. In the year 1912, because of the actions of Pancho Villa's forces, numerous Mormans who had fled the Morman colonies within Mexico opted to settle within Gilbert. In 1915, they started holding church meetings at the Gilbert Elementary School and by the year 1918 they had organized themselves to become the Gilbert Ward.
Throughout much of the early part of the 20th century, Gilbert was known as the "Hay Capital of the World". The economy of the city has continued to rely on agriculture in recent years. On par with the population growth within the township, Gilbert has rapidly transitioned to its existing status as being a modern suburb in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
Each year during late November, the city of Gilbert is home to a yearly "Gilbert Days" celebration. This 3 day festival is in observance of the full paving of Gilbert Road throughout the township. Other famous events within the city include the Hale Centre Theatre, the Riparian Institute, Deer Valley Rock Art Center, Cave Creek, the Gilbert Historical Museum, the Heritage District and the Freestone Park.
There are a variety of recreational facilities in the city like for example 2 municipal swimming pools, 2 community centers and 14 parks. One of the parks has been dedicated as a skateboard park.
The Gilbert community is thriving and diverse, offer an abundance of genuine quality of life. Gilbert provides a lively variety of experiences intended to feature its cultural diversity as well as the natural beauty and historical and modern amenities.
The Heritage District within the downtown core of Gilbert features a distinctive shopping area, an award winning theatre and many dining opportunities. One more well-known attraction is the Gilbert Historical Museum. The Higley Center for the Performing Arts brings a theatrical and artistic flair to the city of Gilbert also. Gilbert offers open-air shopping and entertainment pavilions such as SanTan Village which is complete with live concerts and nationally recognized restaurants.
