 Seats for Forklifts Rochester - Rochester (population 210,565) is a city in the state of New York. It serves as the county seat for the County of Monroe. It is the third most populous city within New York State after the city of New York and the city of Buffalo. Rochester is located just south of Lake Ontario.
Rochester's Bigger Metropolitan Area covers all of Monroe County and parts of Genesee County, Livingston County, Ontario County, Orleans County and Wayne County. Based on the 2010 Census, the metro area has a population of around 1,054,300 inhabitants.
The city of Rochester has a rich and vibrant culture and arts sector because Rochester places a priority on the arts. Once known as The World's Image Centre, due to its role in the history of photography, Rochester is home to the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. Rochester's annual calendar consists of the Park Avenue Merchants Festival, the Rochester Jazz Festival and the Corn Hill Festival. Film festivals are held on an annual basis, most notably the High Falls Film Festival.
Rochester's colourful vernacular has extended beyond the border of the city. The city inhabitants popularized the word "pop" that translates to soda drinks. Hot dogs are called "red hots".
Known as the Flour City, the city of Rochester has been more recently named "the Flower City". The city of Rochester attracts more than 100,000 tourists from all over the globe who come to the annual Lilac Festival. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike around stunning canyons and waterfalls at Letchworth State Park, south of Rochester. Lots of residents have cottages in the nearby Finger Lakes Region.
Eastman Kodak is among a few Fortune 1000 companies located in the city of Rochester. Kodak was at one time the areas largest employer. Bausch and Lomb is another one of the many national and regional businesses located in the city. Rochester was the birthplace of Xerox during 1906, then known as The Haloid Company. Xerox still has a presence within Rochester. Western Union was established within the Rochester region, but has moved since.
Rochester is recognized as the world capital of imaging because of the concentration of optical science research and businesses. The University of Rochester is home to The Institute of Optics. Rochester Institute of Technology in the nearby Henrietta also has an imaging program. The University of Rochester is presently the largest employer within the Rochester region.
