The popular Toledo Zoo is amongst the biggest within the country, well-known for being the site of a hippoquarium. The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) provides a hands-on science museum with both traveling and permanent exhibits for fun and education. Cultural offerings include the Toledo Ballet, Toledo Symphony and the Toledo Opera. Toledo's century-old Valentine Theater is still in operation and is at the heart of the city's downtown rejuvenation project.

The businesses which play a major role in the financial system comprise companies operating in technology, medical, metals, plastic and steel fields. The city of Toledo serves as the banking and finance center for Northwestern Ohio.

The glass business offers lots of jobs in the area, with companies that consist of Owens-Corning, Pilkington North America, Libbey Glass, and Therma-Tru. A major fiberglass company, Johns Manville, is located in the area. Toledo is home to Fortune 500 companies Dana Corporation and Owens Corning. HCR Manor Care, the Fortune 1000 company, is headquartered in the city of Toledo.
